Music Before 1800 presents 14-member vocal ensemble Alexander Blachly, director
Description
The New York-based Pomerium was founded in 1972 by Alexander Blachly who maintains two highly visible careers as a performer and scholar. In addition to directing Pomerium, he teaches at the University of Notre Dame. In New York, Pomerium sings annually on the Cooper Arts and Music Before 1800 series and at the Cloisters; it also performs on concert series throughout the United States. The youthful singers, who ably project Alexander Blachly’s imaginative programs, keep Pomerium at the forefront of the early-music scene. The press has responded eagerly: “This ensemble, led by Alexander Blachly, has become the standard by which early music vocal groups are measured” (New York Times). Pomerium has produced many superb recordings; its latest CD, Josquin Desprez: Missa Hercules dux Ferrarie, Motets & Chansons, on Glissando (Pure Classics), was released in 2003.
